Scrabble Art

Scrabble Crossword Game

I'm a recovering words-with-friends addict, so butchering a perfectly fine (and new) scrabble game was painful -- but I did it!  This heinous act was committed all in the name of... creating things I don't need.  Will anybody cheers to that?!

Pinterest inspired me to make some framed "scrabble art" for my mom's kitchen hallway. Being the cheapo that I am, I made my first attempt using free printable scrabble pieces I found online... You can find them here (or you can do what my mom did and buy the box here).

I wasn't in love with the look of it - and neither was my mom, apparently, because, after giving it to her, the next time she came home she had a brand new Scrabble box for me to destroy.  I figured I could just lay the new tiles over the printed ones - Wrong.  They were different sizes!

Here's a photo of the real tiles sitting on top of the paper ones...

Eventually, I realized I needed a new background anyways, so I sucked it up and started from scratch, eventually ending up with this...

Which ended up going on the wall here (along with other white-and-brown inspired randomness)...

And, of course, there are a lot of tiles left.  I think for a while I'll just set them out as cute decor for the randomness that is summer parties.  For example, Kara and Jerry got married recently and their wedding reception will be at my parents house this month...

On an unrelated note, yesterday's post was about noticing when God works in our lives in ways that are not so obvious.  I had decided to make a conscious effort to find Him in small things throughout my day... Well, last night, I started a small group at church and the first thing that came up with the first woman I spoke with: she also blogs!  It was like God's way of saying "Carly, since you're seeking me, I'm not even going to make you find me in the small nooks and crannys of your life - I'm going to blow your mind instead!"  How crazy is that?  Go figure.  You can find her over at White Inspirations.

  5. What a great idea! I'd like to try to make these as Christmas gifts for my family. Could you pretty please explain how you did the frame? It looks like a regular picture frame (without the glass?), but what is the dark backdrop? Thanks so much for the pointers!!
