On Friday, my fiance and I both worked from home, so we decided to do an impromptu juice cleanse. I was curious about how far into Juicingland my Vitamix could take us, so we decided to jump in and ask questions later.
Believe it or not, the green one was one of my fiance's favorites. |
We made it until dinner, when we both were pretty desperate. Solution? We headed to J. Patrick's for dinner. So worth it.
Finally eating solid foods = huge grin. |
I ordered a summer salad with chicken and a beer. I disliked the beer and didn't finish it (probably a first-time-ever right there) and was unable to finish my salad as well. Guess the juice cleanse did its job!
My fiance, on the other hand, demolished a Bison Burger and fries.
He looks so proud of himself. |
After dinner, we drove up the North Shore to my parents' place. We got there pretty late, but still had some time to chill out with my siblings. My parents were supposed to be returning from Europe, but they got stuck in Toronto overnight, so we missed them.
The next morning, my fiance and I got up early to take the dogs for a walk. My parents live next to a forest preserve that has a lot of paths going through it (one of which actually goes all the way up to Wisconsin).
The game of "Okay, that's a legitimate spot for you to poop" vs "NONONO NOT THERE!" |
While we were walking the dogs, I decided it was just too hot and muggy for an outside run, so I did a 6 mile run in the basement.... and still ended up incredibly sweat soaked. Thumbs up!
Check out sweaty ribs on the right. |
I hopped in the shower and got ready for my hair appointment. My hair artists for my wedding came over and did a trial run. For about an hour and a half, we had some girl time with my sister and played with hair.
You are a magician. |
Before she left, I had her change my hair style so that it wouldn't give the surprise away for my fiance. She left me with a bohemian hair-do that made me feel super glamorous for the next few hours as we sunned ourselves outside.
Obligatory glamorous sunning selfie. Don't hate. Sorry I'm not sorry. |
My brother, sister and I worked on some wedding crafts (sorry, no pictures there! it's a surprise!) outside and then my sister and I made a long overdue trip to Hobby Lobby. I swear I could easily spend my life savings there. I was so grateful to have my sister there to help me make decisions about what to buy.
Eventually, around dinner time, my fiance and I packed up the car and headed home. We had a relaxing night, other than one minor issue. I had a tiny little plastic band stuck in my hair from my hair-do earlier in the day, and I was struggling to get it out. So, being my impulsive self, I resorted to the unthinkable: scissors.
Well, I thought I just snipped the plastic band, but I soon learned that I was wrong...
Goodbye my lover, goodbye my friend... |
Yeah. I just hacked some of my hair off. Two weeks before my wedding. You live, you learn. I'm really not upset about it.
Sunday morning, my fiance and I took a spinning class at the gym. My stomach was feeling all kinds of funky, so I didn't get the best workout, but it could have been worse.
Pre-workout and pre-funky stomach. |
Afterward, we debated making breakfast, but I wasn't feeling well and we were both pretty physically exhausted, so we opted for our favorite brekkie hot spot, The Breakfast Club. I had a BYO Omelet with Egg Whites, Onions, Spinach, Feta, and Bacon, with a side of tomato slices instead of potatoes or toast.
Afterward, we got our weekly haul from CostCo, and I was inspired to get a little creative. After a day of juice cleansing and a day at my parents' house, I was ready to do my own cooking with my own food. First, I made a strawberry lemonade that was simply delicious. Recipe coming soon. You won't be disappointed.
Screw humility, I am awesome and so are you. |
My puppy watched as I worked. She loves to be in on the action, so naturally, she places herself in the middle of it (meaning in the worst possible place ever because she's in the way).
You're lucky you're so cute. |
The results of my cooking party of one two? Blackened Tilapia. Veggies Sauteed in Coconut Oil, Lemon, and Grated Ginger. A Strawberry and Pine Nut Side Salad. And some delicious white wine.
Now I just need a maid to make this for me every night and I'll be all set. |
A few hours (and two glasses of wine) later, my fiance asked for a smoothie. Apparently after two glasses of wine, a smoothie means dessert to me. So, I came up with a smoothie of coconut, banana, raw cacao, greek yogurt, and powdered peanut butter. I will not lie to you, this smoothie proved to me that I am indeed a genius. Recipe coming soon.
What about you?
- How was your weekend?
- Would you freak out if you accidentally snipped your hair off?
I have done much more horrible impulsive things to my hair than accidentally snipping some of it off, and it's never freaked me out. That is not to say that I haven't regretted it as soon as I hit the growing out process, though. I've made a solemn vow never to cut my hair short again because of that.
