Khaleesi Game of Thrones Costume - Clearly I Love Halloween

Pin It Print Friendly and PDF
Yesterday was my office's Halloween party, so I gladly obliged and played my part. I dressed up as Daenerys "Khaleesi" Stormborn/Targaryen, a character from Game of Thrones, which meant that half of the people at my office "got it" and the other half had no idea why I was wearing a blond wig and dressed like a homeless person.

I raided my closet at my parents' house for some old clothes that were in the right color scheme. I ended up with old, ripped brown pants, tucked into my Frye boots, a knit vest that I tied around my waist, an old, fraying brown belt, and a green top that I cut up to have the right shape.

Next, I added the important pieces: A blonde Khaleesi wig, a dragon necklace, and a caged dragon bought on Amazon.com (my amazon search history is clearly messed up now). Why all the dragon stuff? She is the mother of dragons, after all! I had to make sure they made their appearance!

Just for fun, here are a few other costumes I've tried recently:

Effie Trinkett (with my husband as Seneca Crane)
This was a super fun costume for us. We went on a Halloween Bar Crawl with two other couples, and it was a blast to play Effie all day/night! On demand, I would loudly proclaim to the bar, "Happy Hunger Games! And may the odds be ever in your favor!" Just make sure to perfect her accent on that phrase, and you'll be golden!

Check out my husband's "Seneca Crane" beard! That was originally an Abraham Lincoln mask!

A character from Avatar
This was my favorite movie for a solid year, and I watched it every Sunday morning while stuffing my face with grilled cheese during my Senior year of college. I loved this costume and ABSOLUTELY LOVED having a tail. I specifically remember telling people that I felt like I was meant to have a tail. Weirdo.

Pocahontas
This one was pretty fun, because it's always a good time to wear a wig (as you may notice from most of my other costumes, I love wigs!).

A word to the wise if you are wearing a wig: GET A WIG CAP. Seriously, if you have worn an itchy wig and felt miserable all night before, you will understand why I am suggesting this. I used this tutorial for putting on a wig cap without using a hair band, which can leave you with a bump.

WHAT ABOUT YOU?
  • What is your favorite halloween costume you've ever worn?
  • Do you like wearing wigs?
  • What are you being for halloween THIS year?
