A Weekend of Wedding Progress

Pin It Print Friendly and PDF
The past week has been filled with wedding progress. The good kind. The kind where you don't even have to argue with anyone, because everyone pretty much just agrees.

Hallelujah. That's my kind of wedding progress.

On Thursday night, we met my parents at our catering company for a menu tasting. Without going into too much detail (come on now, can't spoil the fun before the wedding), let me just say that everything was amazing. I thought wedding food was typically not that great? So wrong.

Fiance was a fan. Two huge hunks of meat for him to taste? Nothing better.

Afterward, we met up with fiance's parents downtown. They were having dinner at our Rehearsal Dinner spot, so we were excited to scope it out. We had a few drinks and then got to see the room we'll have that night.

No, those are not our flowers - just some pictures
the florist was showing us and the center piece she had sitting out.
Don't get too excited!

Saturday, I went to the florists with my mother and sister. We are using Ashland-Addison Florists, and Meagan is so extremely competent that she made me feel right at home and it was totally stress-free.

Full day of wedding planning appointments means
cute shoes are necessary.

We also stopped at our ceremony and reception venue in Bridgeport, just to check it out again and make sure the expectation matched reality. We did a walk through and chatted a bit more about where we will put things and such.

Then, on Monday, we got a call from our printer for our invitation suites, letting us know that the invites are DONE and ready for pick up!

And today? Today, I've got my first dress fitting appointment! :) Ready to see my wedding gown?

Just kidding!

Six days of pure progress? I'll take it!

What about you?

Wedding Progress! Venue, Music, Dress, and More!

Pin It Print Friendly and PDF

I'm so behind on updating you guys with wedding plans. I wanted to share my progress with you all, so here goes...

Wedding Dress
I got it! Toward the end of January, we paid the deposit and signed for the dress. But, I can't tell you what it is (sorry!). I just can't spoil the surprise! Let's just say it's a black and red pouffy dress (I mean, I'm not trying to lead you astray or anything...).

Unfortunately, the dress won't be in for a few months, which makes me really anxious. I was in between two sizes, being much closer to the smaller one, but they advised us to go up a size. The rationale was that it's easier to take something in than let something out. This, I have to say, stresses me out. I trust them entirely, but I'm also terrified that my dress will arrive and be significantly too big. Did this happen to anyone else? Please ease my mind!

Bridesmaids Dresses:
We've made most of the decisions and are just in the ordering phase! Check out this post for more hints on the dresses, or this post for more info on how I "popped" the question to my girls!

Ceremony and Reception Venue:
Got it! This was one of the most important parts of the wedding to us (perhaps even more important to me than the dress, to be honest), so we started checking out venues immediately after getting engaged. We looked into about 15, narrowed it down to about 5 and toured those. We actually picked the first one we saw.

Our venue for both the ceremony and reception is Skyloft, which is the top floor of an old warehouse which has now been converted into Bridgeport Art Center. It is stunningly beautiful, flooded with natural light, and has a PANORAMIC view of the city of Chicago. I always dreamed of getting married with the city behind me, and now it is finally coming true.

A picture of our venue being set up for another wedding. View of the city is on the left!

Photographer:
We are planning to use the same person who took our engagement pictures, which we absolutely love. We just have to nail down the details.

Music:
This is a point of contention within my family. Justin and I have our heart sets on a band - and, not just any band, but one in particular that is absolutely amazing. We're convinced that this would make our wedding so much more enjoyable and memorable. Having live entertainers who are engaging your guests and adjusting to them sounds perfect for us, and because we are both musicians, it makes this especially important.

That said, getting a live band isn't the cheapest thing ever, and my parents aren't as focused on it as we are. So, we'll see what happens...

Anyway, that's all the wedding nonsense I have for now.

  • Is anyone else planning a wedding?
  • Can anyone help ease my mind about my potentially-too-huge-dress?
